Coder, a remote development environment platform, has released version 2 (v2) with innovative features that cater to the needs of enterprises. v2 abstracts compute from development environments, allowing enterprises to choose between Kubernetes pods, container hosts, or traditional VMs. It also provides complete control over the Kubernetes pod spec and enables Dev Environments as Code via Terraform. These innovations enable Coder to cross the chasm between DevOps/Platform Engineering teams and developers, providing a reliable and scalable platform for daily coding workflows. The v2 OSS project is open-source, while the Enterprise version offers additional features such as cost management, security controls, audit logging, and support for isolated networks. Enterprises can try out v2 OSS or upgrade to v2 Enterprise for centralized security and governance controls, unlocking velocity and time-to-value.
