Summary

Coder has introduced Agent Relay in private preview, initially integrating with Cursor, to let enterprises run cloud-hosted coding agents within self-hosted Coder workspaces while retaining the agents’ existing interfaces and cloud-based reasoning loops. The product addresses governance concerns in regulated industries by keeping code, credentials, tool execution, and workspace infrastructure within an organization’s controlled environment, while applying Coder’s firewall policies, role-based access controls, identity mapping, and audit logging. Agent Relay is designed to support organizations using multiple agent vendors by separating agent selection from the governed execution environment, with Coder registered as an external provider’s compute pool to provision secure workspaces for agent sessions. Unlike Coder Agents, which provides a fully self-hosted agent workflow, Agent Relay does not move LLM inference or the agent’s reasoning process out of the provider’s cloud; it instead targets organizations that have already selected a cloud-hosted agent and need to make its execution compliant and attributable.
