Google Might Think Your Website Is Down
Blog post from Code Input
As the online environment transitions from traditional search engines to AI-driven chatbots, an experiment was conducted to understand how Google interprets a website using JSON-LD structured data. While Google's AI successfully reads and displays information such as pricing tables, it also presents misleading or outdated information, like indicating a website as offline when it is not, due to misinterpretations of content. This raises concerns about how Google's AI synthesizes content from various web pages, sometimes mixing unrelated information, which could potentially mislead users. Furthermore, the AI might expose vulnerabilities by surfacing incorrect user-generated content or outdated details, which could be exploited by scammers. The experiment revealed the challenges and uncertainties in controlling how AI interprets and presents information from websites, especially when dealing with complex interactions between structured data, HTML content, and AI responses.
