CockroachDB Dedicated is HIPAA ready

Cockroach Labs has announced that CockroachDB Dedicated, its fully managed single-tenant version of CockroachDB, is now HIPAA-ready, enabling it to securely store protected health information (PHI) for healthcare organizations. By meeting the stringent security and compliance requirements outlined by HIPAA, CockroachDB Dedicated can now be utilized by both covered entities such as hospitals and health insurance plans, as well as business associates that work with these entities. To ensure ongoing compliance, Cockroach Labs conducted a third-party risk assessment against HIPAA’s security and breach notification rules and plans to perform this assessment annually. This development allows healthcare companies and SaaS organizations that cater to the healthcare industry to leverage the operational efficiencies of CockroachDB Dedicated while ensuring data security. The HIPAA-ready feature is part of the dedicated advanced plan, complementing existing certifications like PCI-DSS and SOC 2 Type 2, and Cockroach Labs also offers to sign a Business Associate Agreement (BAA) with interested customers.
