Summary

Cloudflare has released its open beta version of R2, an object storage solution designed to eliminate high egress charges from other cloud providers. The response to R2 has been positive, with developers and corporations excited about the potential for cost savings and improved collaboration. R2 offers two APIs: In-Worker API and S3-compatible API, both supporting basic create/read/update/delete operations. During the open beta period, R2 aims to sustain 1,000 GET operations per second and 100 PUT operations per second, per bucket. The forever-free tier includes 10 GB-months of stored data, 1,000,000 Class A operations, and 10,000,000 Class B operations per month. Future plans for R2 include improving performance, expanding feature set, and adding automatic global distribution of storage.
