Cyberattacks since the murder of George Floyd
Blog post from Cloudflare
In the wake of George Floyd's murder and subsequent protests in the US, there has been a significant increase in cyberattacks on advocacy organizations fighting against racism. Cloudflare, an internet security company, saw a 17% rise in blocked cyberattack HTTP requests over the weekend of May 30/31 compared to the same period in April. Advocacy groups experienced a staggering 1,120x increase in attacks during this time. Additionally, attacks on government and military websites have also risen month-on-month by 1.8x and 3.8x respectively. Cloudflare remains committed to protecting vulnerable targets through its Project Galileo initiative, which provides protection from cyberattacks for at-risk organizations advocating for marginalized groups.
