Organizations constantly face threats from phishing, business email compromise (BEC), and advanced email attacks, with Cloudflare using its extensive Internet visibility to process billions of email threat signals daily through AI and machine learning models. While Cloudflare's rapid detection and rule deployment successfully block malicious emails, they create a challenge for security teams who may not understand the rationale behind blocked emails due to a lack of context. To address this, Cloudflare introduced "Cloudy," an AI-powered agent designed to translate complex detection logic into clear explanations, minimizing the risk of security liabilities. Initial challenges with Cloudy included "hallucinations," where the model generated inaccurate information, but these were mitigated through safeguards like Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) and enhanced model context. Testing now shows Cloudy provides stable and clear explanations for email detections, and Cloudflare is running a beta program to ensure accuracy before wider implementation. Additionally, Cloudflare offers a Retro Scan tool for free, allowing organizations to scan existing emails for threats and implement further security measures, even if they are not Cloudflare customers.
