Cloudflare migrated and redesigned its blog on August 12, moving from its previous CMS to EmDash, an Astro- and Cloudflare-focused content management system, as part of its “Customer Zero” practice of using and improving its own products internally. The project identified and addressed early-platform gaps involving scheduled publishing, large-scale media and content search, localization, SEO, security policies, and editor usability, while performance testing informed an architecture based on Cloudflare Workers, Workers Cache, Workers KV object caching, and Hyperdrive integration with PlanetScale. The new design aligns with Cloudflare’s Kumo system, adds accessible light and dark modes, relocates email subscriptions to post endings, and introduces page navigation and discussion-sharing sidebars. A proxy Worker enabled a gradual, reversible rollout from 1% to 100% of traffic with fallback for server errors. Cloudflare reports that the new cached system delivers more consistent latency, serves most static assets and many requests from cache, handled up to 850 requests per second in early production, supported nearly 3 million pageviews during Agents Week, and absorbed a 28,000 RPS DDoS attack. The migration also added Model Context Protocol servers that let AI agents search blog posts and enable authors to manage EmDash content through agent-based tools.
