CloudFlare Keeps Groundhog Day Online!
Blog post from Cloudflare
On February 2nd, 2011, Groundhog Day saw a massive surge in traffic on the official website of the Punxsutawney Groundhog Club (www.groundhog.org). To handle this spike, the club utilized CloudFlare's free service, which successfully kept the site online and responsive despite a server crash. The website received over 2.2 million page views in 24 hours, peaking at nearly 300,000 per hour. Glenn Kelly, who helps administer the site, reported "zero downtime" during this period. Additionally, CloudFlare's global network made the site approximately 40% faster for visitors worldwide.
