Summary

Cloudflare has made Python Workers generally available, establishing Python as a fully supported language on its Developer Platform and allowing developers to deploy Python applications that integrate with services including Workers AI, R2, D1, Hyperdrive, Durable Objects, Queues, and Workflows. Built on Pyodide and WebAssembly, the platform now provides native, Pythonic access to Cloudflare bindings, eliminating prior JavaScript conversion requirements, while ASGI and WSGI connectors enable frameworks such as FastAPI, Django, Flask, and other compatible applications to run without managing servers. New socket support through the Workers connect API also enables PostgreSQL and MySQL drivers with Hyperdrive, as well as networking-dependent AI libraries such as OpenAI, LangChain, and MCP. Cloudflare has supported the broader Python-on-WebAssembly ecosystem by helping establish the PyEmscripten package platform through PEP 783 and extending build tooling, with the aim of increasing compatible native-extension packages. Available examples demonstrate uses including AI orchestration, image generation, real-time WebSocket stream processing, MCP servers, and retrieval-augmented generation systems, while future work will focus on performance, memory efficiency, and wider package support.
