Next.js applications, powered by Vite: introducing Vinext 1.0
Blog post from Cloudflare
Cloudflare has released Vinext 1.0, an open-source framework designed to make existing Next.js applications portable across platforms including Cloudflare Workers, Netlify, and AWS Lambda while using Vite as its foundation. Originating as a week-long AI-driven experiment, Vinext has evolved over seven months to support production workloads, with more than 99% compatibility in tested core Next.js behavior excluding Cache Components. The release supports both App Router and Pages Router applications, including hybrid projects, React Server Components, Server Actions, API routes, middleware, client navigation, ISR, static exports, observability integrations, and common Next.js ecosystem patterns. Vinext 1.0 also adds build-time prerendering and Cloudflare-based cache warming, which renders selected and high-traffic pages before a deployment receives production traffic to avoid lengthy builds and improve initial response times. While support for Next.js Cache Components remains limited, Cloudflare plans to maintain compatibility through automated monitoring of upstream Next.js changes, nightly test runs, and AI-assisted issue detection and fixes.
