Summary

Cloudflare has introduced a new feature called Cloudflare Agents, designed to facilitate the deployment and management of hosted agents by providing enhanced observability. This initiative leverages Cloudflare's nine years of experience in building a developer platform, offering tools such as model access, durable runtime, orchestration, sandboxed execution, and persistent storage. A key component is the launch of agent tracing, which allows for direct insight into agent behavior, measuring every model call, tool execution, and token usage. This tracing is compatible with OpenTelemetry-compatible agent harnesses like Think, Flue, and AI SDK, enabling users to visualize and analyze agent operations to improve performance. The Cloudflare dashboard now features a dedicated Agents view to monitor and debug agents, offering functionalities like session replay and trace inspection to understand and optimize agent decisions. The integration supports exporting telemetry data to any OTLP-compatible provider, providing a feedback loop for improving agent quality, performance, and cost. While currently in beta, tracing will eventually be integrated into existing Workers Observability pricing by 2026.
