Summary

Cloudflare has introduced cf, an open-beta command-line interface designed to expand agent access from Wrangler’s roughly 280 commands to more than 3,000 Cloudflare API operations, responding to growing agent usage that reached 48% of Wrangler activity in the prior week. Built through Forge, a pipeline that generates commands from annotated OpenAPI schemas, cf standardizes command patterns across products and enables tasks ranging from Worker deployment and monitoring to domain purchases and security configuration. It uses JSON as its default output, provides natural-language command discovery through cf cli search, and offers validated forms for operations requiring user input. The tool also introduces cloudflare.config.ts, a TypeScript-based, type-checked configuration format intended to improve agent and editor assistance, support programmatic environment definitions, and eventually manage Cloudflare resources beyond Workers. Vite is the default development system, supplying its development server, plugin ecosystem, hot module replacement, and testing integration, while cf can still delegate to Wrangler for projects that rely on existing esbuild, Rust, or Python workflows. Cloudflare plans to maintain Wrangler for 18 months after cf’s beta concludes, while offering migration and initialization commands to help developers adopt the new CLI.
