Summary

Cloudflare has introduced Adaptive Intelligence, a bot detection engine designed to raise the cost of automated attacks rather than relying solely on static rules intended to block every attacker. The system continuously retrains machine-learning models on live network traffic and combines signals including TLS fingerprints, request patterns, session behavior, network reputation, browser telemetry, and challenge results to identify distributed, low-volume attacks that can evade conventional rate limits. Planned capabilities include automatically generating short-lived “disposable” detections that are difficult for attackers to reverse-engineer and retaining knowledge of past attack patterns after individual rules are retired. Updates are tested in shadow mode and rolled out gradually to limit false positives affecting legitimate users, with performance monitored through measures such as challenge outcomes, precision, recall, and customer feedback. Adaptive Intelligence is intended to work alongside Cloudflare’s Precursor behavioral-validation system, and Enterprise Bot Management customers can receive it by enabling Auto Update Machine Learning in the dashboard.
