How we’re rethinking work at Cloudflare with Cloudflare OS

Cloudflare CIO Sam Rhea describes how rapidly improving AI agents prompted the company to develop Cloudflare OS, an internal platform for enabling employees to build and deploy AI-powered workflows while protecting internal and customer data. The effort is guided by principles including focusing on customer-serving problems, making AI accessible beyond engineers, holding humans accountable for agent outputs, supplying organizational context, and preserving existing permission boundaries. For engineers, Cloudflare created an Engineering Codex and AI review agents that have flagged hundreds of thousands of potential issues and blocked thousands of code merges, while nontechnical teams initially used a “magic AI email” service to identify recurring automation needs. Cloudflare OS evolved from a browser-based workspace that runs reusable skills with controlled access to company systems into a platform where users can describe workflows in natural language, generate secure applications and agents, and schedule or trigger them without managing API keys or deployment pipelines. The system uses Zero Trust authentication, MCP-based connections, custom permission controls, AI Gateway logging and data-loss protections, and isolated environments to govern access and model usage. Cloudflare reports that thousands of employees now use the platform weekly, with sales teams estimated to have saved more than 10,000 hours in one month and users creating more than 4,000 targeted apps and tools.
