Four months of VoidZero at Cloudflare: making the open-source JavaScript toolchain faster for all humans and agents
Blog post from Cloudflare
Four months after joining Cloudflare, VoidZero reports maintaining its commitment to keep Vite, Vitest, Rolldown, Oxc, and Vite+ open source, vendor-neutral, and community-driven while releasing more than 80 updates and closing over 1,200 issues. Key performance developments include the Rust-based Oxc React Compiler, said to compile React applications 10 times faster than the Babel implementation; Vitest 5, which can reduce test times by up to 50%; stable type-aware tsgolint, reportedly 12 to 18 times faster than ESLint in large TypeScript projects; and Rust-based Oxfmt formatters that are claimed to run seven times faster than Prettier while retaining compatible output. The organization is also advancing Bundled Dev, a Vite development mode using production bundling for improved performance in large applications, and has released Vite+ 1.0 as an integrated toolchain including Vite, Vitest, Rolldown, Oxlint, Oxfmt, and task caching. VoidZero frames faster tooling as increasingly important for both human developers and AI agents, while Cloudflare has committed $2 million in total toward open-source support, including a Vite ecosystem fund, and plans further improvements to Oxc, Rolldown, and an open-source self-hostable version of its Vite-native deployment platform.
