EmDash 1.0: the stable CMS with a secure plugin registry
Blog post from Cloudflare
Cloudflare has released EmDash 1.0, a free, MIT-licensed open-source CMS built on Astro that combines developer tooling, an editorial admin interface, APIs, CLI access, and an MCP server for AI agents. The stable release follows production use and testing, including migrations by Avulux and Cloudflare’s own blog, which informed features for performance, caching, localization, media management, database migrations, and security at high traffic volumes. EmDash supports a growing ecosystem of themes, e-commerce tools, multisite platforms, and sandboxed plugins distributed through a decentralized registry based on AT Protocol, where publishers retain control of their signed packages and release histories while site owners can inspect requested permissions before installation. Its plugin architecture isolates extensions and grants access to content, media, users, email, or network services only through administrator-approved capabilities, with compatible runtimes on Cloudflare Workers and Node.js. Cloudflare also introduced EmDash Build, an open-source alpha AI site builder that generates full Astro and EmDash websites from prompts, records changes as Git commits, and deploys completed projects through Workers for Platforms.
