Catching rogue AI behavior with identity-aware analytics

Cloudflare has announced an open beta integration between AI Gateway and Cloudflare Access, along with the general availability of User Insights for AI Gateway customers, to improve visibility, identity-based governance, and cost management for organizational AI use. AI Gateway centralizes requests to AI providers and developer tools, while the Access integration authenticates users through SAML identity providers, attaches verified user IDs to requests, and enables per-user spending limits and access policies. User Insights establishes behavioral baselines for people and agents by comparing session costs against each account’s rolling 30-day p95 usage and an organization-wide p99 cost threshold, highlighting unusually expensive sessions while filtering out routine high usage or insignificant deviations. The system is intended to help administrators investigate possible compromised credentials, runaway agents, or inefficient AI practices without automatically blocking users. Cloudflare also plans task-based model routing to reduce costs and prompt classification to provide more context about how AI is being used, including potential insider-risk signals.
