BotBase for Operators: A clearer path to joining Cloudflare's directory of bots and agents

Cloudflare has launched BotBase for Operators, expanding its bot directory service to give bot operators greater visibility and control over submissions while helping website owners manage automated traffic. Available through the Cloudflare dashboard, the new interface includes a searchable bots directory, a submission form, and submission history showing whether entries are awaiting review, accepted, or rejected, with explanations for decisions and classification changes. Operators can now edit existing submissions or cancel pending ones, helping keep verification information such as IP lists, reverse DNS, or Web Bot Auth details current. The revised form uses a taxonomy that captures a bot’s functions, its intended use of accessed content, and whether it is operated directly or as an intermediary platform, aligning bot declarations with website Content Signals preferences. Cloudflare also automated many review checks to address a sevenfold rise in submissions since 2023, aiming to speed approval while routing complex cases for manual review. Future plans include bot ownership tools, visibility into how sites treat bots, and mechanisms for operators and websites to communicate about access and value.
