Cloudflare has announced the launch of Cloudflare Calls, a new product that enables developers to build real-time audio/video applications with ease. The platform exposes APIs for building various types of apps such as video conferencing, interactive conversations, group workout apps, and fireside chats. WebRTC is used as the underlying protocol, which allows devices to communicate directly without leaving the browser. Cloudflare Calls abstracts away the complexity by turning the Cloudflare network into a "super peer," helping developers build reliable and secure real-time experiences. The platform eliminates the need for users to answer questions about regions, scalability, and latency, as it uses anycast for every connection and is global by nature. It also focuses on observability to help customers troubleshoot issues faster and ensures privacy and security by default. Cloudflare Calls is currently in closed beta, with an invitation request available on their website.
