Summary

On May 18, 2011 at 12:21AM, Matthew Prince reported that their network reached an impressive milestone of delivering a sustained average of 2,000 page views per second. The peak traffic was even higher than this average. In the past, they used to monitor the logs in terminal windows for insights into network activity, but now generate over a million log lines per minute, making that approach impractical. Instead, they have a globe displaying global traffic (human, crawler, and threat) coming into their network's various sites. This display was intentionally designed to resemble the one in the lobby of another company located nearby in Mountain View, which had also been a startup not too long ago.
