EASIE SSO: What It Is and Which Providers Support It - Part 2
Blog post from Clerk
EASIE SSO, a lighter OpenID Connect-based alternative to traditional SAML, is supported by Google Workspace and Microsoft Entra ID and implemented by Clerk, the spec's author and sole public practitioner as of June 2026. This system simplifies enterprise single sign-on by eliminating per-customer certificate and metadata exchanges, though it doesn't replace SCIM for continuous directory sync. EASIE is particularly suited for organizations using Google or Microsoft, offering quick, self-service onboarding and SP-initiated sign-in without the overhead of per-customer SAML connections. However, it's not compatible with single-tenant identity providers like Okta or Ping, and it doesn't support IdP-initiated sign-in or full SCIM directory sync. Despite these limitations, EASIE offers a secure, scalable option for businesses seeking efficient, organization-wide authentication, backed by tenant verification and stable-identifier keying to maintain security in a multi-tenant model.
