What you need to know: Native USDC on OP Mainnet

Circle Internet Financial is introducing native USDC to the Optimism ecosystem, part of their #StableSeptember initiative aimed at expanding the presence of USDC in new blockchain environments. Native USDC will be officially issued on the OP Mainnet, offering users a stablecoin that is fully backed by reserves and redeemable 1:1 for US dollars, along with institutional on/off-ramp capabilities. This move is expected to eventually replace the existing Ethereum-bridged USDC liquidity, which will be renamed as USDC.e. Circle is coordinating with ecosystem applications to ensure a smooth transition of liquidity from USDC.e to native USDC, while maintaining the current functionality of the OP Mainnet bridge. The initiative is part of Circle's broader goal to enhance the accessibility and efficiency of money movement globally, and they encourage further engagement and updates through their newsletters and Discord.
