Circle Internet Financial has unveiled Modular Wallets, a new variant of Programmable Wallets designed to provide developers with greater flexibility when managing smart contract accounts. This innovation allows developers to create customizable wallet solutions by selecting only the components they need, offering an alternative to the comprehensive services provided by existing User-Controlled and Developer-Controlled Wallets. Developed in collaboration with industry leaders and built on the ERC-6900 modular framework, Modular Wallets aim to address issues like fragmented smart contract implementations and interoperability challenges. They offer features such as flexible key management, transaction screening, gas abstraction, and support for passkey-enabled wallets, which enhance security and simplify user experiences. Additionally, Modular Wallets facilitate advanced functionalities like session keys, multi-owner features, and weighted multi-signature options, paving the way for more secure treasury management and subscription services. The launch includes support for platforms like Polygon PoS and Arbitrum, with plans to expand compatibility to other EVM-compatible blockchains.
