Circle Internet Financial has launched Cross-Chain Transfer Protocol V2 (CCTP V2), an advanced system designed to facilitate faster and more secure USDC transfers across different blockchains. Building on the original CCTP V1, which has successfully processed over $37 billion in transactions, CCTP V2 introduces features like Fast Transfer and Hooks, enabling transactions to settle in seconds and allowing for automated post-transfer actions with greater smart contract integration. Despite the existing constraints of source chain block finality, CCTP V2 reduces cross-chain transfer times by utilizing message attestation and supports enhanced composability and liquidity without additional trust assumptions. The new protocol is currently available on Avalanche, Base, and Ethereum, with more integrations expected. CCTP V1 will continue to operate on 11 blockchains, while CCTP V2 aims to improve the efficiency and user experience of cross-chain crypto capital markets.
