Summary

Circle outlines a vision for an open agent economy in which AI agents function as a new form of labor that developers can publish, buyers can discover based on demonstrated performance, and providers can be paid per task using stablecoins such as USDC. It argues that, like webpages and APIs before them, agents should rely on permissionless shared infrastructure rather than closed platforms, with open standards for identity, capabilities, payments, settlement, reputation, validation, and discovery. While protocols including ERC-8004, x402, MPP, and stablecoin settlement provide much of the technical foundation, Circle identifies credible trust signals and open, manipulation-resistant discovery rankings as the key missing layers. Its second-half 2026 roadmap aims to demonstrate a complete market loop in which a developer publishes a paid agent, an independent agent discovers and purchases its service, and the completed transaction supplies evidence that improves future reputation and rankings. Circle says its existing Agent Marketplace, which offers more than 900 paid services and a public discovery API, is an initial curated starting point, but emphasizes that the long-term system should support multiple publishers, indexes, and rankers rather than making Circle the central authority.
