Chainlink has launched the second version of its Verifiable Random Function (VRF v2) on the Ethereum mainnet, offering a highly scalable, configurable, and gas-efficient solution for generating on-chain randomness, particularly beneficial for NFT and gaming decentralized applications (dApps). Since its inception, Chainlink VRF has become a leading random number generator for smart contracts, serving over 2,300 unique contracts across various blockchain networks. The new version improves on its predecessor by reducing transaction costs by up to 60%, allowing more flexibility and configurability for developers, and supporting multiple random outputs per request. This release enables a wide range of applications, including fair NFT minting, randomized NFT drops, community giveaways, and unbiased gameplay in player-versus-player games. Chainlink VRF v2 is part of a broader effort to enhance decentralized services, with further developments planned for other blockchain platforms.
