Open Earth Foundation, a non-profit organization focused on advancing open-source platforms for planetary resilience, has received a social impact grant from the Chainlink Community Grant Program to develop an oracle node that integrates assessment models for carbon pricing on blockchain networks. This initiative aims to enhance existing oracles that publish climate emission data by incorporating advanced carbon pricing mechanisms accounting for social, economic, and energy variables to calculate the social cost of carbon (SCC). The project will enable the creation of more stable carbon markets and support voluntary carbon taxation schemes powered by smart contracts. Open Earth Foundation plans to conduct research, develop APIs, and prototype a voluntary carbon taxation program using this grant. The organization has previously succeeded in projects like creating a CO2 concentration data oracle. Collaborating with various global entities, Open Earth Foundation leverages technologies such as blockchain and AI to address climate and environmental challenges, aiming to build global climate accounting systems and mobilize stakeholders on open-source infrastructure.
