Introducing Chainlink CustodySync: Connecting Institutional Capital to DeFi Lending Markets
Blog post from Chainlink
Chainlink CustodySync is presented as a system designed to connect assets held by qualified digital-asset custodians with DeFi lending markets without requiring institutions to move collateral out of regulated custody. It addresses the risk that custodians and lending protocols may use different balances, prices, or timing to assess loan-to-value ratios, potentially causing improper or delayed liquidations. The solution uses Chainlink Proof of Reserve to publish custody balances onchain, receipt tokens to represent collateral in lending markets, shared price data from Data Feeds and Data Streams, and automated synchronization through the Chainlink Runtime Environment. Under the model, custodians retain control of client assets and manage liquidations, while borrowers can access onchain liquidity and lending markets receive independently verifiable collateral information. Anchorage Digital Bank is the launch partner, integrating its Atlas Collateral Management system with CustodySync to offer institutional clients access to DeFi lending. Chainlink positions the product as a way to expand DeFi borrowing demand from the estimated $700 billion digital-asset custody market, though it notes that features, timelines, and results may vary.
