The Healthy Regions + Policy Lab at the University of Chicago used CARTO's Builder software to create a tree equity application that integrated various data sources, including housing, transportation, and hardship insights from the CDC, as well as surface temperature data from NASA. This solution allowed them to analyze natural factors like tree coverage against health and social factors, uncovering correlations between environmental and social factors with speed. The user-friendly dashboard enabled non-technical stakeholders to understand and interact with the findings, putting evidence-based research directly in the hands of decision makers and influencing policy changes, including a $46 million budget commitment to plant 75,000 trees over five years.
