Spatial Features, the new derived dataset from CARTO, is a curated product that provides global demographic data and Point of Interest (POI) aggregations by category delivered in a common geographic support system. The product aims to overcome the "change of support problem" in spatial data science, where datasets are aggregated at different levels of geography. By providing data in a consistent geographical context, CARTO Spatial Features enables Data Scientists to analyze and visualize data more efficiently. The initial set of derived data includes demographic variables such as total population and population by age and gender, as well as Point of Interest aggregations in curated categories. The data is available globally and on a country-by-country basis, with two levels of resolution: Quad Grid level 15 and Quad Grid level 18. CARTO plans to further expand these datasets in subsequent releases with additional features such as land use categorization and spatial lags. Enterprise customers can access the first version of CARTO Spatial Features datasets at no cost, with sample data available for public use. The product is designed to support innovation and gather valuable feedback from real-world use-cases.
