Climate change poses significant risks to assets such as infrastructure, buildings, and natural resources, which can lead to financial losses, social disruption, and environmental degradation. To assess these risks, companies and stakeholders need to access relevant data sources and tools, such as spatial composites, which represent aggregated information that cannot be measured directly. Spatial composites can help simplify modeling efforts, capture spatial heterogeneity, facilitate decision-making, and provide scalability and flexibility. This blog post demonstrates how to use CARTO Analytics Toolbox for BigQuery to compute spatial composite scores for different types of assets, such as buildings, Points of Interest, roads, and urban areas. The analysis shows that climate-related risks can be assessed at the asset level by combining hazard scores with exposure and vulnerability indicators, providing insights into the risk levels of urban populations and road networks, which can inform decision-making and policy development.
