Dani Arribas-Bel, a Senior Lecturer in Geographic Data Science at the University of Liverpool, was awarded the Spatial Data Scientist of the Year 2020 award by CARTO's Scientific Community. He is recognized for his work on spatial analysis using new types of geospatial data and his impact on his industry through innovative methodologies and projects. The award also acknowledges his contributions to nurturing a community in geographic data science. Dani has been involved in the development of the open-source library PySAL and created a small Python package for web tile services. He is also a co-editor of the journal "Environment and Planning B - Urban Analytics and City Science" and serves on the editorial panel of "Journal of the Royal Statistical Society Series A - Statistics in Society".
