Buildkite recently reevaluated its company values, identifying four key reasons for change: an overload of values beyond what employees could remember, values that were more like attributes without guiding principles, complexity and lack of actionability, and misalignment with the company's current identity. The previous values, such as "transparency" and "collaboration," were deemed insufficient as they didn't effectively guide behavior or resonate with the team. As a result, Buildkite developed a new set of values, labeled as v1.2, to better reflect their culture and aspirations. These include embracing individuality and spontaneity, fostering honest and empathetic interactions, empowering diverse teams, maintaining momentum with a focus on action over perfection, and collaborating closely with users and the community. These updated values aim to be more memorable, actionable, and aligned with the company's current and future vision.
