In 2024, AI-powered code generation tools gained attention with promises of quick app creation through simple prompts, but a survey of 793 Bubble builders highlighted the actual effectiveness of visual development platforms over vibe coding for production applications. The majority of experienced builders expressed greater confidence in visual development for mission-critical applications, with 71.5% favoring it over vibe coding, which only garnered 32.5% confidence. Additionally, security concerns were prevalent with vibe coding, as 72.3% of respondents worried about vulnerabilities, while 52.8% rated visual development as the most secure approach. The survey revealed that visual development not only led in builder confidence and security but also in productivity, with 77.4% reporting threefold or greater productivity gains, compared to more modest gains with vibe coding. Moreover, significant cost savings were reported, with nearly 50% of builders saving up to $250,000 annually in development costs using visual development tools. As a result, visual development platforms are predicted to dominate production application development by 2025, while vibe coding will remain valuable for prototyping but will struggle with debugging, customization, and long-term maintenance.
