We spoke with p2p Business Awards founder, David M. Simons, on creating an app that provides low-cost recognition and PR to small businesses, entrepreneurs, and social enterprises. David is a project manager without a technical background. After reading an article about an entrepreneur that used Bubble to launch a product, he developed his no-code skills and decided to become an entrepreneur himself. p2p Business Awards offers web-based awards to recognize small business, solo-entrepreneurs, and social enterprises from any sector, anywhere, allowing peers to judge each other's entries and providing low-cost recognition and PR. Users complete a short questionnaire, select award categories, pay an entry fee, and then evaluate their peers' submissions to receive a score. The app allows participants to receive certificates, PR tips, and a press kit with a personalized certificate page, press release, and web page. David discovered no-code tools like Bubble through a BBC online article and expanded his skills by using Gaby Román's training courses. He chose Bubble for its straightforward interface and availability of low-cost resources. The app has seen traction, with users engaging with the platform and providing feedback, and plans to introduce annual country-specific awards once it has a large enough user base. David hopes that the global pandemic will lead more small businesses to try out the app as traditional business awards are canceled or postponed.
