Individual versus team: weighing the utility of just-for-you AI agents
Blog post from Box
Enterprise adoption of AI agents is rising, but organizations often struggle to measure the impact and return on investment of personal productivity tools because employee use cases, prompting practices, and resource consumption are difficult to track. Drawing on Box’s experience operating more than 60 vetted, role-specific AI agents, the author argues that standardized team agents can support repeatable business tasks, use secure company context, enable usage monitoring, and provide measurable indicators such as time saved, completed actions, and quality improvements. Individual “just-for-you” agents may offer flexibility and experimentation but can require duplicated setup, inconsistent prompting, and inefficient model use across employees. The proposed approach is a hybrid allocation of AI spending, with most investment directed toward scalable, tested team and cross-functional agents while a smaller portion supports personal agents that address gaps and may eventually reveal valuable new automation opportunities.
