Eleanor Wenker, a receptionist at Box, initiated the creation of BoxAbilities, an Employee Resource Community (ERC) at Box that supports employees with disabilities, neurodiversities, and their allies by promoting education, allyship, and empowerment. Her personal journey with dyslexia and ADHD, which she discovered during college, motivated her to form this community to connect with others facing similar challenges and to raise awareness about neurodivergence. BoxAbilities quickly gained traction, with 73 individuals responding to its membership survey, highlighting a strong interest in shared experiences and community building. The group plans to host events such as coffee chats during Disability Pride Month to foster connections and understanding, and aims to increase awareness and dismantle ableism through ongoing activities. Wenker emphasizes the importance of awareness, acceptance, and allyship in creating a more inclusive society, urging allies to educate themselves and challenge their biases to better support the disabled and neurodivergent community.
