Box MCP server updates bring more ways to connect, govern, and work with AI
Blog post from Box
Box has expanded its Model Context Protocol server to simplify secure connections between AI tools, agents, and Box content while strengthening administrative governance. Users of tools such as Cursor and Claude Code can now sign in through a browser rather than create developer apps or manage API secrets, with requests operating under their existing Box identities and permissions; a forthcoming MCP-specific scope will further streamline application configuration. Enterprise Advanced customers can apply policy-based guardrails to supported write actions, while administrators can configure available MCP tools by integration or custom app, set read and write permissions, and establish enterprise-wide defaults. Verified-domain support for ChatGPT Enterprise and Claude Enterprise can restrict Box connections to authorized corporate AI workspaces, reducing the risk of content exposure through personal accounts. New activity and tool-call reports provide detailed visibility into integrations, user actions, request outcomes, duration, and errors to support adoption monitoring, auditing, and governance.
