Box and OpenAI to bring enterprise content directly into ChatGPT

OpenAI and Box have expanded their partnership with an embedded Box experience in ChatGPT that lets enterprise users access, preview, and use authorized Box content without leaving the ChatGPT interface. Users can browse Box folders through the ChatGPT Library, search for and select files, @mention them in conversations, view source materials alongside chats, edit Box Notes, and use supported Box MCP server tools through natural-language prompts. The integration is intended to reduce the need to manually download or transfer files while allowing teams to apply AI to information stored in contracts, research materials, financial reports, and other unstructured business content. Existing Box permissions remain in effect, and administrators retain control over available MCP tools and actions, preserving Box’s governance and security model. The feature is generally available to Box customers, while access for ChatGPT paid-tier users is being rolled out, and the Box MCP Server can be installed through the ChatGPT Plugin directory.
