Upcoming Linux updates in April 2026
Blog post from Bitrise
Bitrise is enhancing its build environment by transitioning to newer Linux stacks, aiming to improve speed, security, and reliability for app development teams. The shift involves moving from the currently stable Ubuntu 22.04 for Android & Docker, which will be phased out by April 2027, to the Ubuntu Noble 24.04 Bitrise 2025 Edition, which will become the default stable stack in April 2026, featuring updated tooling and preinstalled software versions. This upgrade aligns with their Stack Update Policy, offering a more streamlined and predictable update process. Key updates include changes to preinstalled Android NDK versions, emulator system images, Kotlin CLI, Java, Node, Flutter SDK, Ruby, Python, and Go, reflecting a commitment to providing a modern, up-to-date development environment. Developers are encouraged to test their builds on the new stack to ensure smooth transitions and take advantage of the latest features in preparation for the complete deprecation of the older stack.
