Make React Native builds 4x faster with fingerprint-based caching on Bitrise
Blog post from Bitrise
Fingerprint-based caching can substantially accelerate React Native CI by hashing native build inputs such as package files, lockfiles, and app configuration, then reusing a previously built native app when only JavaScript changes. On a cache hit, CI replaces the JavaScript bundle within a cached Android APK or iOS archive and re-signs it, avoiding native compilation; a referenced demo reduced an Android JS-only build from about 3.5 minutes to 44 seconds and an iOS build to roughly 50 seconds. Bitrise supports a do-it-yourself implementation using cache restore and save steps, though it requires scripts to manage fingerprints, bundle replacement, Hermes assets, and signing. Bitrise Build Cache for React Native is presented as a complementary managed option that caches lower-level compiler outputs from Gradle, Xcode, and C++ builds, allowing dependency changes to recompile only affected components while providing analytics and shared caches for CI and developer machines. The approach is most beneficial for larger applications, where native builds can take 10 to 20 minutes but JavaScript bundle updates remain relatively quick.
