Summary

Baseten has introduced BDN Sealed Volumes, an immutable, content-addressed way to publish read-only model artifacts and mount them across deployments, intended to reduce version drift caused by copied checkpoints, adapters, indexes, tokenizers, and other data. Available through Baseten CLI 1.1.0 or later, volumes create sealed versions identified by digests, while optional mutable tags can point to versions without changing deployments that pin a digest. The system deduplicates chunked content to minimize uploads, mounts data without a traditional pre-start download phase, and streams files through BDN cache tiers as models read them, potentially improving startup behavior and supporting volumes larger than local node storage. Users can sync content from Hugging Face, major cloud storage providers, Baseten training jobs, or local directories, then mount a specific version in deployment configuration; older versions can be restored for seven days after deletion. Baseten positions Sealed Volumes as a replacement path for new weight deployments, while existing weights-block deployments will continue to work and are planned for automatic migration, though volume mounts were not available on T4 or L4 instances at publication.
