Azion Introduces Edge Functions

Edge Functions, now in beta release, is an event-driven serverless computing solution offered by Azion, designed to enable developers to create edge-native applications with ultra-low latency and scalable performance. Building on three months of Early Access, Edge Functions support JavaScript and allow users to implement custom or prebuilt functions for tasks like A/B testing and secure tokens. These functions execute swiftly on the nearest edge node, offering cost-effectiveness by charging only when code runs, thus eliminating the need for resource management. Unlike container-based solutions, Edge Functions avoid cold starts, ensuring consistent performance, and leverage Azion's V8 Isolate for secure, sandboxed operations. With real-time monitoring and logging capabilities, they offer portability and interoperability through the use of ECMAScript and the Fetch API. Built on Azion Cells, which utilize Rust for efficiency, Edge Functions are designed to consume minimal resources compared to other solutions like AWS Lambda, making them faster and more resource-efficient while avoiding vendor lock-in.
