Can ChatGPT Make Music? It Writes the Song, and One Plugin Makes It Play
Blog post from Atlas Cloud
ChatGPT can create basic music on its own by writing and running Python that generates WAV files from synthesized tones, drums, chords, and vowel-like “vocals,” and it can also export useful MIDI sketches, lyrics, and chord progressions, but it does not natively produce convincing sung performances. By connecting the Atlas Cloud plugin, users can access specialized models such as MiniMax Music 3.0 for vocal songs or instrumentals, ElevenLabs v3 for downloadable voiceovers, and Seedance 2.5 for video, allowing a complete multimedia project to be created and mixed within one ChatGPT project. In the test, ChatGPT wrote lyrics for a 79-second sung track, generated an instrumental bed and a narrated MP3, created a silent 12-second video clip, and used ffmpeg to combine the assets. The process involves describing the desired output, reviewing the plugin’s request preview, and confirming submission, while costs depend largely on the external models used. Although ChatGPT’s built-in Read Aloud and Voice Mode support in-app listening, they do not provide downloadable audio files, and copyright or commercial use of AI-generated music remains dependent on human contribution and the relevant service terms.
