Evaluate production traces with Jev-as-a-Judge directly in Arize AX
Blog post from Arize
Arize AX has added native integration with TypeSafe AI’s Jev-as-a-Judge, enabling teams to evaluate application traces through structured boolean, choice, and scoring questions that return labels and confidence scores. Jev is a decision model designed for bounded classification, routing, and policy-compliance tasks rather than generative text explanations, potentially offering a lower-cost and faster alternative to LLM judges for evaluations with explicit criteria. In Arize testing for hallucination detection, a threshold-tuned Jev achieved 87% accuracy, matching Claude Opus 5 while operating at roughly one-three-hundredth of the cost and 23 times the speed, though its default threshold performed substantially worse, emphasizing the need for calibration against human-labeled data. The integration eliminates the previously required remote evaluator service layer and allows users to configure Jev through their TypeSafe AI API key, define trace data and evaluation questions, validate results against labeled examples, and deploy evaluators to assess production traffic.
