Announcing the Special Interest Group (SIG) for Ray on Accelerators
Blog post from Anyscale
Ray has announced a Special Interest Group for hardware accelerators to coordinate a vendor-neutral roadmap for supporting increasingly diverse AI hardware, including GPUs, TPUs, LPUs, Trainium, and Gaudi. The group brings together hardware vendors, cloud providers, Ray contributors, and application developers to make accelerator-based Ray workloads easier to build, more efficient at scale, and more reliable in production. Its initial priorities include expanding access to real hardware and reproducible testing environments, improving CI coverage and ownership of integrations, developing hardware-aware scheduling that accounts for device topology and connections, and providing clearer cluster visibility and documentation. The SIG also plans to strengthen Ray Direct Transport, which moves tensors directly between devices using high-performance technologies such as UCX and RDMA, reducing CPU-memory and networking bottlenecks for distributed AI workloads. Ray Core will retain core scheduling logic, while vendors and providers will maintain device plugins, transport integrations, and early support for new accelerator models.
