Maryland has partnered with Anthropic to enhance government operations using advanced AI models, aiming to better serve its over six million residents. The state will leverage Claude, an AI-powered virtual assistant, across various agencies to streamline processes such as applying for benefits like SNAP and Medicaid, document verification, and providing policy guidance for complex cases, thereby improving support delivery. Additionally, the partnership includes an AI upskilling pilot for early-career professionals in key industries and a tool to identify unmet community needs. This collaboration builds on Maryland's prior use of Claude, such as a bilingual chatbot for SUN Bucks benefits, and reflects Anthropic's commitment to responsible AI deployment. The initiative, supported by the Rockefeller Foundation and Percepta, positions Maryland as a model for other states while making public services more efficient and accessible.
