Anthropic has introduced new features for managing context on the Claude Developer Platform, powered by their latest model, Claude Sonnet 4.5, aimed at enhancing the performance and capabilities of AI agents handling long-running tasks. These features include context editing and a memory tool, designed to address the limitations of context windows by ensuring only relevant data is retained and critical insights are preserved across sessions. Context editing automatically removes outdated tool results to maintain conversation flow and extend agent operational time, while the memory tool allows agents to store and retrieve information outside the context window, building knowledge bases over time. This system enhances agent performance by enabling longer conversations and boosting accuracy with stored learning. The updates have demonstrated significant improvements in performance, with context management improving agentic search tasks by up to 39% over baseline. The new capabilities are available in public beta on the Claude Developer Platform, as well as on Amazon Bedrock and Google Cloud’s Vertex AI.
