Introducing The Anthropic Institute

Anthropic is launching The Anthropic Institute to tackle significant societal challenges posed by the rapid development of powerful AI systems. This new initiative will leverage Anthropic's research to inform both researchers and the public during the transition to a world with advanced AI capabilities. The Institute, led by co-founder Jack Clark, will focus on understanding the implications of AI on jobs, economies, and societal values, while engaging with communities affected by these changes. It will comprise a diverse team, including experts from machine learning, economics, and social sciences, to stress-test AI systems, study their societal impacts, and analyze economic effects. The Institute aims to provide candid insights based on its unique access to frontier AI information and encourages discourse on AI governance. Concurrently, Anthropic is expanding its Public Policy team to influence AI governance globally, with plans to open a new office in Washington D.C. to enhance its policy efforts.
